Do you currently not hold a more senior position? Don't get discouraged. Maybe you qualify for one anyway.
Arrive Logistics | 1x Mid, 1x Associate Full Stack Javascript Engineer (Special Projects) | Hybrid (2 days in office - Chicago) | Full Time
At its' simplest, Arrive is software sitting people who have things to ship and the people that can ship it. Quickly growing and major hiring sprees. Recession/COVID hasn't impacted us. $2B revenue and thousands of shipments a day. Great environment, tons of benefits, tight knit team, actual career progression, and you can impact at multiple levels the company and yourself.
You'd join a small special projects team that works on... you guessed it - special projects. We solve the tough problems and high value missions that push forward our business AND engineering org. You can think of us as the startup team of the bigger company working outside the red tape.
We work in React/Node/Express with a healthy dose of Typescript, PSQL and Azure. Ideal person is 2-4 years for mid and 6 months to 2 years for associate. We are open to you if you are new to the industry with less than 6. Knowing Javascript is more important than the frameworks and tools.
You'll need to be ready to jump into the deep end right away. Full stack position but we're happy to teach if you're newer to one side or the other. You'll take on the hard stuff, grow your career, and have the mentoring & coaching support you.

Sr. cloud computing researcher | Chicago, IL | ONSITE (indep. research group based out of University of Chicago)
Disclosure: I left my position on this research team this summer after a pleasant 4 years. It's quite a different environment than one normally might find on these listings.
The Nimbus team[1] is funded by multiple grants from the National Science Foundation and concentrates on building accessible, powerful cloud infrastructure for the comp sci research community. Our users are folks who are doing work that cannot be done on commercial clouds for a variety of reasons (lack of low-level access, performance variability too high, cost $$, etc.) We work with stuff like OpenStack, Kubernetes, Liqid, and are always exploring new things, like how to build a distributed edge/IoT testbed, and how to enable practical reproducibility of CS experiments.
I think more development talent should consider working in science/research. There are lots of opportunities and I don't think they are often advertised well.
The job is in Chicago but we work largely remote. Still, in-person has been preferred especially as sometimes it's helpful to work with collaborators at the Argonne National Laboratory west of Chicago. Happy to answer more in pm.
