## About Us
Symmetry Investments is a post startup USD 7+ billion alternative asset management company with around 230 people across multiple time zones and locations.
Our core technology team has been remote-first for some time, and the whole company is following suit, post-COVID.
I'm one of the three people running the firm, responsible amongst other things for technology across the firm and I’m posting this myself. That should give you an idea both about how seriously we take technology and the culture of the firm.
We are four years into a period of transformation from what was initially a fairly standard enterprise finance technology approach to something new that recognises the importance of both the humane and the technical for discretionary portfolio management and for the business of running an alternative investment manager. [Amaury Sechet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhR4PSExnqk), [Andrei Alexandrescu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es6U7WAlKpQ) and [Atila Neves](https://dlang.org/blog/2019/10/15/my-vision-of-ds-future/) have been working with us as long-term consultants and we have many other talented people with lower public profiles.
It's not easy to integrate practitioners who may spend most of their day programming, but are oriented towards solving business problems, with developers who are specialists in programming. To achieve this, we wrote a little functional DSL that's now in production. Type inference of returns and parameters using inequality constraints is in a feature branch and there is plenty more to do on the language itself as well as the ecosystem around it. SIL can compile and call C++ and D at runtime; Python interop is in alpha; and C# is on the way. What might be a project in itself elsewhere can be just a set of functions in Symmetry Integration Language.
The language is written in D and we have a close involvement with the D Foundation and community, hosting DConf in London. So we are looking for outstanding native code developers who would like to write D as well as people to work with practitioners writing Symmetry Integration Language. Also looking for people to write documentation and work on the build.
It's quite a creative place where we encourage a degree of courage amidst practical constraints, and we are open to doing things a different way if it's commercially sound and in the interests of our investors.
We look for virtues and capabilities over only experience and credentials although those things aren't a disadvantage. Do not let a lack of credentials or qualifications prevent you from applying. We've recently hired experts with C++, Common Lisp, D, Haxe, Haskell, Julia and Perl backgrounds, and are happy to bring them up to speed with the tools we use.
Compensation is currently not quite at Netflix standards but is generous to very generous over time by broad technology industry standards. We recognise and reward technical accomplishment and have a very flat structure - don't be surprised if our founder and CIO starts asking you questions about your work.

I'm one of the three people running the firm, responsible amongst other things for technology across the firm and I’m posting this myself. That should give you an idea both about how seriously we take technology and the culture of the firm. We are three years into a period of transformation from initially a fairly standard enterprise finance technology approach to something new that recognises the importance of both the humane and the technical for discretionary portfolio management and for the business of running an alternative investment manager.
It's not easy to integrate practitioners who may spend most of their day programming but are oriented towards solving their business problems with developers who are specialists in programming. To achieve this, we wrote a little functional DSL that's now in production. Type inference of returns and parameters using inequality constraints is in a feature branch and there is plenty more to do on the language itself as well as the ecosystem around it. What might be a project in itself elsewhere can be just a set of functions in Symmetry Integration Language.
The language is written in D, we hosted dconf last year and will do so again when conditions permit. So we are looking for outstanding native code developers who would like to write D as well as people to work with or as practitioners writing Symmetry Integration Language.
We've recently hired experts with C++, Common Lisp, D, Haxe, Julia and Perl backgrounds, and are happy to bring them up to speed with the tools we use.
Compensation is currently not quite at Netflix standards but is generous to very generous over time by broad technology industry standards. We recognise and reward technical accomplishment and have a very flat structure - don't be surprised if our founder and CIO starts asking you questions about your work.

Mux (YC W16) | SF, London, REMOTE (US, CAN, and UK) | Full-Time | Elixir, Golang, TypeScript/React | https://mux.com/jobs
Mux is how developers build online video.
With Mux Video, developers gain access to a powerful API for video streaming--think Stripe for Video. A dev doesn't need to have strong feelings about ffmpeg settings to get started; teams can focus on building your actual product instead of bolting together a video pipeline. And with Mux Data, developers realize incredible insights into how their videos perform from platform to platform, place to place, and user to user.
I'm Ed, and I'm an engineer on the DevEx team here. This is a pretty good place to be, IMO. The team here is sharp, there is a real and concerted focus on not just competence but on the human side of things; one of the company's core values is "be human" and I thought it was marketing stuff 'til I joined and learned to my surprise that it is emphatically not. Also? Legit, the best onboarding experience I've ever had. During a pandemic, no less.
The tech stack actually manages to balance cool with useful, too. It's a multi-cloud environment running Kubernetes on AWS and GCP, with Elixir, Golang, and some NodeJS (some JS, mostly TypeScript), plus React and TypeScript for all the usual bells and whistles.
Mux is a good place to be and if video is your bag, or even just sounds interesting, you should check us out. At the moment our hiring is limited to the US, Canada, and the UK, but the company is fully remote--I'm in Boston and I don't feel disconnected compared to the SF folks. Feel free to head on over to https://mux.com/jobs and check out our openings; we run a pretty standard interview-loop process and I don't feel like we waste candidates' time. Even if you don't see an immediate spot that clicks with you, feel free to reach out anyway; we have a way to find room for amazing people.

Flyp Homes | London, UK | ONSITE (flexible WFH) | https://flyp.co
Multiple positions, at multiple levels of seniority (from intern to lead), from 50-100k GBP.
If you've ever sold a home in the UK then you have likely felt that no one in the process had any incentive to help you. Flyp is changing that by building a business that partners with homeowners to help them realize the full potential of their investment into their home, even as far as through renovations to the home.
We're a profitable business and are scaling our operations throughout London and the UK, and to do that we need to create a decent software stack that can automate a lot of our operations. Because it is so early we haven't decided on a tech stack. If you're a wizard at excel, a category theorist writing in Haskell, an expert at PostgreSQL, or just someone who likes typescript then we would be delighted to hear from you. Our main requirements are that you're intelligent, play well with others, have an interest in real estate, and hate that people have to do repetitive jobs.

Plexi | Senior Backend Engineer & more | Remote | Full-time | £75k-£100k | Great Benefits! | https://plexi.vet
At Plexi, we’re revolutionizing the way that veterinary practices work. Although they have software to book appointments and generate invoices, they currently use internal phones, paper, and whiteboards to communicate with one another and to share the plan for each patient’s treatment.
Switching to Plexi gives adopting practices a whole range of benefits, through the use of intuitive, digital tools designed to deliver the highest levels of patient care. You’ll be helping us transform the veterinary industry and bring it into the 21st century!
Our product team is mostly from the startup world. Our backend stack is Python 3, Django, Django REST framework, graphene, requests, celery, Redis, and PostgreSQL, while our frontenders use React, TypeScript and Apollo GraphQL with CSS in JS. We openly embrace new technologies, as long as they seem like the right tool for the job in the long term.
We use lots of static analysis tools (pyright, isort, flake8, bandit and black) to eliminate dry, manual checks around code quality and consistency, and keep reviews focused on logic and user needs. As a team providing healthcare software, we’re dedicated to extensive testing of our codebase to make sure animals get the best treatment when their vet uses Plexi.
We’re a fully distributed team but would ideally like 4 hours overlap with London.
