Matterport | Senior Software Engineers in Frontend/3D, iOS or Android | US Remote | Full-time | REMOTE VISA
Matterport makes a 3D camera and web platform that allows users to easily capture and display 3D models of physical spaces. Check out some example spaces in our gallery: https://matterport.com/gallery
Some interesting facts about us:
* We host over 4,500,000 highly detailed 3D models of real places captured by our cameras, amounting to over 4.5PB of data.
* We serve over 100 million 3D views every month, which amounts to over 50 billion requests and 2.5PB of data.
We're looking for engineers for our fully remote 3D (WebGL) and mobile (iOS/Android) teams.
* The 3D team makes our 3D viewing and editing applications for the web and VR. Core technologies include Typescript, THREE.js, WebGL and Preact. The team sits at the very end of our 3D pipeline: 3D data gets uploaded from our cameras, processed by our vision pipeline in C++, Python, and TensorFlow, before GraphQL APIs serve the data to the WebGL and VR applications, which is what the end user sees.
* The Mobile team makes our 3D scanning applications, that let our users scan 3D models with your phone, or control a 360 or 3D camera. We write in Swift (iOS) and Kotlin (Android), and often get to do a lot of high performance, graphics-heavy stuff in addition to the more normal UI work.
If one of these teams peaked your interest, send your resume and some words to hakon (at) matterport (dot) com!

## About Us
Symmetry Investments is a post startup USD 7 billion + alternative asset management company with around 220 people across multiple time zones and locations.
Our core technology team has been remote first for some time, and the whole company is following suit, post-COVID.
I'm one of the three people running the firm, responsible amongst other things for technology across the firm and I’m posting this myself. That should give you an idea both about how seriously we take technology and the culture of the firm.
We are three years into a period of transformation from what was initially a fairly standard enterprise finance technology approach to something new that recognises the importance of both the humane and the technical for discretionary portfolio management and for the business of running an alternative investment manager. Andrei Alexandrescu (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es6U7WAlKpQ) and Atila Neves (https://dlang.org/blog/2019/10/15/my-vision-of-ds-future/) have been working with us as long-term consultants and we have many other talented people with lower public profiles.
It's not easy to integrate practitioners who may spend most of their day programming, but are oriented towards solving business problems, with developers who are specialists in programming. To achieve this, we wrote a little functional DSL that's now in production. Type inference of returns and parameters using inequality constraints is in a feature branch and there is plenty more to do on the language itself as well as the ecosystem around it. SIL can compile and call C++ and D at runtime; Python interop is in alpha; and C# is on the way. What might be a project in itself elsewhere can be just a set of functions in Symmetry Integration Language.
The language is written in D, we hosted dconf last year and will do so again this year. So we are looking for outstanding native code developers who would like to write D as well as people to work with practitioners writing Symmetry Integration Language. Also looking for people to write documentation and work on the build.
It's quite a creative place where we encourage a degree of courage amidst practical constraints, and we are open to doing things a different way if it's commercially sound and in the interests of our investors.
We look for virtues and capabilities over only experience and credentials although those things aren't a disadvantage. Do not let a lack of credentials or qualifications prevent you from applying. We've recently hired experts with C++, Common Lisp, D, Haxe, Julia and Perl backgrounds, and are happy to bring them up to speed with the tools we use.
Compensation is currently not quite at Netflix standards but is generous to very generous over time by broad technology industry standards. We recognise and reward technical accomplishment and have a very flat structure - don't be surprised if our founder and CIO starts asking you questions about your work.

Senior Rust Backend Engineer | [eventures.vc](http://eventures.vc) | Remote in The Americas | H1B Visa
COMPANY: http://eventures.vc
TYPE: Full-time
DESCRIPTION: We're venture capital. You'll analyze data for discovering and analyzing new technology startups that we will invest in. Our code is now mostly Rust, but there's legacy C++ and Python, and also a lot of bash glue.
We're looking for someone who knows computers through and through because you'll be touching every corner of our self-hosted systems:
* Writing data processing jobs, which can sometimes be performance-sensitive * Maintaining our Debian servers, such as adjusting OS settings and installing new hardware (we have data center remote hands, but sometimes it's helpful to be on-site for hardware tasks). Comfort with some Linux system administration is a must. * Adding items to our job management system * Writing Postgres queries and making new tables * Optimizing code so it fits in memory * Creating novel ways of storing and accessing data * Maintaining HTTP APIs to our (web) frontend * Machine learning to categorize our data * Numerical processing
You'll work directly along side me with a small engineering team (who work mostly on different projects). You'll be touching all sorts of things.
We have flexibility on our expectations, and preferably it will be someone who can both overlap with and augment our existing team. Therefore, we don't require a perfect fit with the above so as long as you're willing to learn.
While you'll like working here: we're a small flexible engineering team. Your customers are the rest of the small organization. We're also not constantly putting out fires and working 80-hour weeks. Our team loves to learn and solve problems together. And you can have opportunities to contribute back to the Rust and open source worlds.
COMPENSATION: Will be commensurate to experience. This is a mid-level/senior position, but we're open-minded since it's a flexible role.
CONTACT: Do not disclose any information could identify race, gender or sexual preferences, including your name and email address. Email your resume and cover letter (appropriately anonymized) to `rusty-resumes` at `eventures.vc`.

Micro:bit Educational Foundation | Front-end Developer | Oxford, UK | Onsite +Flex
https://apply.workable.com/micro-bit-educational-foundation/...
Working with the Web Tech Lead and wider tech team, you will develop web applications and enhance the microbit.org website in order to help children around the world get creative with digital technology, with a specific focus on broadening the diversity of students passionate about computing. This is a broad role in a small organisation, and will include working on “micro:bit classroom”, which provides connectivity between students and teachers in a virtual classroom and an online editor/development environment for students to write Python code to run on the micro:bit device.
The role will employ a wide range of skills and gives the chance to work on different parts of the web stack across several projects. We don’t expect you to have experience in all areas of our stack, but to give a flavour:
* Front-end code uses React and TypeScript (including the Python editor). * The microbit.org website uses the Gatsby static site generator paired with the Sanity headless CMS. * We use Create React App as a basis for new apps, supported by backend code in AWS Lambda (Node.js) and Pusher for WebSocket-based communication. * We deploy to AWS via CI/CD pipelines using CircleCI or GitHub actions. * Extensions to the Microsoft MakeCode coding environment use TypeScript with a little C++. The micro:bit draws on technology from our global partners, and we work closely with engineering teams inside Arm, Microsoft, MIT, Nominet and with the global Python Community to deliver innovative products that transform the way computing is taught around the world.Following in the footsteps of the pioneering BBC Micro in the 1980s, the project started in collaboration with the BBC in 2016. There are now more than 5 million BBC micro:bit devices in use across 70 countries. The micro:bit is at the heart of a diverse ecosystem of hardware accessories, software editors and educational resource providers, and a key role of the tech team at The Foundation is to support this ecosystem in growing and diversifying in an open way.
There's scope for flexibility in hours and location, though we'd like you to be able to spend ~50% of your time in the office once offices are a thing again. Not all the team work full time...
