SecureDNA | full-time | 100% remote, worldwide | Developers and test engineers
The SecureDNA project seeks to enable fast, reliable, cheap, automated screening of DNA synthesis orders, to prevent both careless and malicious users from synthesizing potentially-hazardous DNA sequences anywhere in the world. It is an international, academic/commercial partnership project, consisting of researchers from MIT, Tsinghua University, Aarhus University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other world-leading academic institutions, in partnership with major international DNA synthesis providers. We write primarily in Rust, with some Python.
Our goal is to develop an automatic and accurate screening system which can screen DNA synthesis orders much more quickly and cheaply than the current human-reliant review system; have negligible impact on legitimate research by researchers authorized to work with particular organisms; effectively block hazardous DNA sequences from being produced without suitable oversight, whether via accident or malice; protect intellectual property by not disclosing the submitted DNA orders to third parties; protect worldwide security by not disclosing potential hazards which may not be public; and enable global commercial adoption, with community verification, via scientific diplomacy and open-source software. To learn more, visit our website (<https://www.securedna.org>) or read our technical whitepaper (<https://www.securedna.org/manuscript/Cryptographic_Aspects_o...>).
We are seeking to enlarge our existing development team with a small number of skilled and passionate developers and test engineers to continue implementing the specification we have developed. This includes the initial beta release, scheduled for the next several months, with possible extension to the entire (multi-year) project. You will be responsible for:
● Developers: Writing a variety of components, mostly backend (storage, crypto, network) and a small amount of frontend (customer-facing web); and deploying the system into the production environments of our DNA customers and vendor partners. The codebase won't be huge, but it must be correct, secure, and performant.
● Test engineers: Establishing a testing framework for assuring quality via continuous integration; creating inventive test cases and strategies across all levels of the codebase (unit, integration, and functional); ensuring thorough test coverage; Fuzzing and automated testing. If you're full of devious ideas for how to break and compromise everything you touch, we want you.
No relocation is required; this is a 100% virtual position. SecureDNA has the flexibility to hire either as a full-time salaried position or as a contractor at industry-competitive rates. Funding is administered through MIT (US) and Tsinghua University (China).
Basic Requirements: Significant experience working with secure software system development and deployment; strong knowledge and experience in Rust (and secondarily Python); knowledge and experience with software testing and with git; familiarity with common cryptographic software libraries and implementations; and fluent in English, including good writing skills.
Nice to Have: Familiarity with modern cryptography-based secure computing algorithms; and some familiarity with basic biological knowledge and DNA synthesis; prior background in bioinformatics or related fields.
Benefits: Flexible work hours and arrangement; a critical role in implementing an important biosecurity system which will be deployed worldwide; future opportunities in long-term collaboration with other research projects; and competitive salary and other benefits.

## About Us
Symmetry Investments is a post startup USD 9+ billion alternative asset management company with around 250 people across multiple time zones and locations.
Our core technology team has been remote-first for some time, and the whole company is following suit, accelerated by the pandemic.
I'm co-CEO and co-COO, responsible amongst other things for technology across the firm and I’m posting this myself. That should give you an idea both about how seriously we take technology and the culture of the firm.
We are five years into a period of transformation from what was initially a fairly standard enterprise finance technology approach to something new that recognises the importance of both the humane and the technical for discretionary portfolio management and for the business of running an alternative investment manager. [Amaury Sechet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhR4PSExnqk) and [Atila Neves](https://dlang.org/blog/2019/10/15/my-vision-of-ds-future/) have been working with us as long-term consultants and we have many other talented people with lower public profiles.
It's not easy to integrate practitioners who may spend most of their day programming, but are oriented towards solving business problems, with developers who are specialists in programming. To achieve this, we wrote a little functional DSL that's now in production. Type inference of returns and parameters using inequality constraints is in a feature branch and there is plenty more to do on the language itself as well as the ecosystem around it. SIL can compile and call C++, D, and C# at runtime and interoperate with Python and R. What might be a project in itself elsewhere can be just a set of functions in Symmetry Integration Language.
The language is written in D and we have a close involvement with the D Foundation and community, hosting DConf in London. So we are looking for outstanding native code developers who would like to write D as well as people to work with practitioners writing Symmetry Integration Language. Also looking for people to write documentation and work on the build.
It's quite a creative place where we encourage a degree of courage amidst practical constraints, and we are open to doing things a different way if it's commercially sound and in the interests of our investors.
We look for virtues and capabilities over only experience and credentials although those things aren't a disadvantage. Do not let a lack of credentials or qualifications prevent you from applying. We've recently hired experts with C++, Common Lisp, D, Haxe, Haskell, Julia and Perl backgrounds, and are happy to bring them up to speed with the tools we use.
Compensation is currently not quite at Netflix standards but is generous to very generous over time by broad technology industry standards. We recognise and reward technical accomplishment and have a very flat structure - don't be surprised if our founder and Chief Investment Officer starts asking you questions about your work.

AllSpice | https://allspice.io/ | Boston, MA | Full time | Remote/Onsite | Junior - Principal | Golang / python / rust / Vue
As a software engineer you know the importance of a well-established dev ops process with version-control, collaboration, and automated test. Consider that in hardware, we generally review and release new products with pdf, email, and (at best) in-person design reviews. I got so fed up with the inflexible "industry standard" practices that I left my role as an EE manager to build GitHub for hardware development. MuKn | Remote, all time zones | Full-time or contract | https://mukn.io/
Mutual Knowledge Systems (aka MuKn, pronounced "moon") is looking to extend its development team. We are building Glow (https://glow-lang.org), an open-source domain-specific language for Decentralized Applications (DApps). Glow simplifies DApp development by offering higher-level abstractions than standard solutions (e.g., Solidity) and a "write once, run on- and off-chain" workflow. We also do bespoke blockchain infrastructure consulting; e.g., our Account-View-on-UTxO-Model (AVOUM) scaling solution, formal verification, zero-knowledge proofs, cross-shard messaging, etc.
Glow’s metalanguage is Gerbil Scheme (https://cons.io), but we use other languages where necessary, including JavaScript, Haskell, Go, and Rust. We are seeking experienced developers who can work autonomously, but know when to ask for help.
A background in Lisp, Scheme, or a purely functional language would be helpful, but is not required; experience with language design and implementation is also a plus. Other relevant domains include: blockchains, smart contract technologies (e.g., the EVM and also (E)UTxO models), compilers, distributed systems, cryptographic protocols, information security, economic modelling, game theory, automated theorem proving, and zero-knowledge proofs.
We’re a fully remote team spread across many time zones. We like to keep meetings and policies to a minimum, and expect team members to manage their own time and communications. We have one mandatory weekly meeting, structured as an informal code walk-through and review; this helps keep everyone aware of what the rest of the team is up to and how everything fits together.
Interviews are straightforward: you’ll be asked to talk about and answer questions about projects and code you’ve worked on, and we’ll do the same. No LeetCode, no take-home assignments, etc.
Please send resumes to jobs@mukn.io. Any notable public discussion (on a mailing list, GitHub issue, etc.) where you changed your own mind or someone else’s mind would be great to see, too.
Elastic File System (AWS) | All Engineering Roles | Boston, NYC, VA, and remote for senior roles!! | Full-time
EFS is cloud native file system built from the ground up at AWS. We have tons of interesting distributed systems challenges at scale and are obsessed with delivering value for our customers. Here's a great talk about EFS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3eAFPEJTbs. You can also check out this recent NH article: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30345921
Mostly we are a back end team working on internal services that make up EFS. We use lots of Java, C/C++, python for various tools, typescript for CDK, and a smidgen of Rust. If you never want to touch web development we can make you pretty happy. If you like web development - well we also have those roles as well (but less of them).
Engineers who do well at EFS have a passion for diving deep and reasoning about cloud scale systems. I think it's pretty interesting but I'll admit I am biased :)

FullStory provides "Digital Experience Intelligence" - privacy-focused session replay and analytics for web and mobile apps. Basically, we help you find how and where your end-users are getting stuck. We can even rank the issues based on estimated ROI impact.
Mobile replays look like a cross between a video and a wireframe because we record and replay the draw calls, but we redact privacy-sensitive information on the device. (This allows us to use a fraction of the bandwidth/cpu/battery/etc. that recording an actual video would take.)
We also have other openings in Engineering, PM, HR, Sales, Support, and more: https://www.fullstory.com/careers/?gh_src=48c7cad32us
All the usual benefits: equity, healthcare, 401k matching, self-directed PTO, option to work from home even if you're near an office.
I'm one of the engineers on the mobile team, primarily working on iOS capture and replay - if you have any question, feel free to comment here or email me directly: nathan@[company site].

Qualcomm | Austin, TX, USA | Full Time | ONSITE | QEMU
https://qualcomm.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/External/job/Se...
My team is looking to hire 2 software developers to help us design and extend QEMU support [1] for the Hexagon DSP [2]. We're looking for candidates who have experience coding in C, C++ or Rust* and who aren't afraid of rolling up their sleeves and poring over disassembled code. This particular architecture is a bit more challenging than most, because it's a bit unique. It's a VLIW [3], so it's a great opportunity to learn about an interesting architecture. Millions of Hexagon DSPs are out there, most are found in Snapdragon SoCs for Android phones and more!
We collaborate a lot with Open Source communities like QEMU, LLVM [4], the Linux kernel [5], and more. I love being able to work on Open Source software at my day job.
If you have any questions, you can contact me directly (email addr is in my HN user link). If you like the idea of working on stuff like open source toolchains but QEMU is not your thing, let me know. There’s other opportunities too.
All of the team lives locally around Austin. Parts of the team work remotely, and come into the office ~2 days/wk. It may be possible to make this position r_emote-and-not-living-near-Austin -- for the right candidate.
* Rust experience may serve the role well but we don’t (yet) have any product software in Rust.

Oso | Engineering Leader, Software Engineer, Developer Advocate, Product Leader | New York City (NYC) | Onsite or Remote
Over the last 15 years, companies like AWS, Stripe, and Twilio have helped developers offload anything not core to their apps so they can focus on what matters to their users. Despite a lot of progress in developer tooling, most developers still roll their own authorization.
You might start with something quick 'n dirty – some IF statements and roles in a database, which may not be pretty but gets the job done...until you need to add more features, and more features. And inevitably every team band-aids onto this system until they do a big refactor. This is lost time for an area that's not core to what most companies are trying to solve for their users, and what's more, no one on the team is feeling great about this work.
At Oso (backed by Sequoia), we're building the first batteries-included framework for authorization so developers don't have to roll it on their own ever again. We're designing slick APIs to cut down the amount of time they spend getting their system set up, and building a fully-fledged policy engine and programming language (in Rust) under the hood to ensure they can customize their system however they need. We don't have any product managers – the engineers on the team are responsible for taking broad problems, experimenting with potential solutions and shipping a superhuman experience for our users.
The team members who join now will not only have a disproportionately large impact on the product, but also on the culture and future of the company.
We are based in NYC and hiring folks remote or onsite.
