Heliax | Multiple roles | REMOTE (+-2 hours from CET ideal) | Full Time | https://heliax.dev/jobs#all-jobs
Heliax is a public goods lab which was built on years of pioneering experience across distributed systems, programming language theory, and zero-knowledge cryptography. All our work is open-source. Examples of some of our projects are Namada (https://github.com/anoma/namada), a sovereign proof-of-stake blockchain; Juvix (https://github.com/anoma/juvix), an experimental programming language; and Taiga (https://github.com/anoma/taiga), a framework for generalized shielded state transitions.
We are currently actively hiring for a number of positions, most notably Senior Rust Engineers.
For the Senior Rust Engineer position, we are looking for experienced Rust developers that are interested in applying novel research to create high-quality open-source technology and solve outstanding problems in the blockchain space. You'll be working on distributed ledger technology implemented in Rust, all the way up and down the stack from the P2P layer to consensus algorithms, smart contract systems, proof-of-stake incentive mechanisms, privacy-enhancing cryptographic components, and on-chain governance procedures.
For the Protocol Security Lead, you'll be responsible for breaking protocols both in theory and practice in and outside the company, and assembling a team to help them do so. You'll receive a high degree of latitude and autonomy to prioritize tasks and search for the weakest links in complex systems in order to break them. The rough structure could be compared to Google Project Zero, but with a focus on cryptographic protocols & implementations instead of web technology writ large. The ideal candidate would have a background in cryptographic protocol design (e.g. Signal protocol, Noise protocol, TLS), distributed systems protocol design (e.g. Raft, PBFT, replicated SQL) and a penchant for quickly understanding and finding both design & implementation mistakes in unfamiliar systems. You might also have experience in systems hacking, capture-the-flag competitions, penetration testing, or similar activities. Experience in mechanism design, game theory, or cryptoeconomic design is a bonus but not a requirement.
Heliax is a remote-first team, currently composed of cross-disciplinary members located around the world. All of our work is open-source. Our work culture is characterized by open-allocation, where team members have a high degree of freedom and autonomy in choosing when to work, what to work on, and whom to work with.
We have other openings as well, which can be seen at https://heliax.dev/jobs#all-jobs.
If interested, email jobs+hn@heliax.dev or apply from the link above and reference HN in your application.

Grit | Senior+ Engineers (ML, PL, Design, Backend) | New York, San Francisco, or Remote | Full-time | $120–250k + equity
We’re building software to automatically fix technical debt. We do this by combining expressive static analysis tooling (we’ve built a developer-friendly query language for code) with machine learning to automatically migrate code to new patterns and platforms. We’re in private beta, but have already deployed thousands of successful changes for beta customers and have raised a $7M seed round from top investors.
We’ve got lots of fun challenges at the intersection of machine learning and programming languages. Our stack is Scala, Rust, TypeScript, Python, and Kubernetes. We’re hiring for both smart generalists and PL/ML experts who are interested in collaborating on problems like automatically inserting new types into codebases and using unit tests for reinforcement learning.
Here are a few reasons you might be interested in applying:
- We work fast and focus on shipping, with a single meeting per week (demos!).
- We’re working on the edge of the possible and doing deep technical work in parsers/language design and machine learning.
- We mostly work in-person in New York and San Francisco, but remote is also possible for outstanding candidates who have proven success in a remote model.
- I’m personally committed to giving real feedback to everyone who applies.

Chalk | ONSITE (SF) Mission District | Backend Software Engineers | Rust and Python | Full-time | https://chalk.ai/
Chalk (11 employees) is building machine learning infrastructure to answer the world’s hardest questions. We make it easy for machine learning teams to build high-performance pipelines that deliver data to models at the right time. We orchestrate infrastructure and automatically track data lineage so developers can work confidently and focus on their unique products and insights.
We’re lucky to have an all-star founding team. Elliot (https://www.linkedin.com/in/elliotmarx/) started his career at Affirm where he built the policy and resolver framework (the inspiration for Chalk). He then started Haven Money which Credit Karma acquired to power its banking products. Andy (https://www.linkedin.com/in/amoreland/) got his start at Palantir working on large government data infrastructure projects before co-founding Haven with Elliot. And Marc (https://www.linkedin.com/in/marcff/ - our CEO) spent many years at Google where he helped to launch the first version of Google Wallet. He went on to start Index which Stripe acquired as its in-store payment solution – it’s now called Stripe Terminal.
Across their experiences, they have seen and tackled the challenge of building the data infrastructure that's required to make high quality credit, risk and fraud decisions. That led Marc, Elliot and Andy to Chalk — data infrastructure for machine learning with a best-in-class developer experience.

Ride with GPS | Rails Engineer and Mapping Data Engineer | Portland or Remote | Full Time | https://ridewithgps.com/about
We are the world's largest library of bike routes, and we enable cyclists to go on better rides, more often. We have a website and mobile apps that allow riders to discover the best riding in their area, and get turn by turn navigation using either our mobile apps or the bike computer of their choosing.
Come join us in taking Ride with GPS to the next level! We have two openings right now:
- Rails / API engineer: https://ridewithgps.com/careers/backend_engineer
- Mapping Data Engineer: The job posting is not up yet, but this role entails working with mapping technologies, both custom and open source, as well as working with our large store of geo data from riders, in order to extract interesting information about the best places to ride. As an example, we have a very high performance custom heatmap builder and server, written in rust. You can see that here: https://ridewithgps.com/heatmap. As an example of working with existing open source tech, we processed all our rider data and matched it to OSM data, and wrote some customizations to the graphhopper routing project that enable us to route based on popularity of roads. If we had a skunkworks department, this would be it.
Instructions available at https://ridewithgps.com/careers. Send resume + cover letter to careers@ridewithgps.com with an optional brief paragraph about your relationship to cycling or the outdoors. Riding bikes is not required, but we do find it helps!

Qualcomm | Hyderabad, India | Full Time | ONSITE | QEMU
My team is looking to hire a software developer to help us design and extend QEMU support [1] for the Hexagon DSP [2]. We're looking for candidates who have experience coding in C, C++ or Rust* and who aren't afraid of rolling up their sleeves and poring over disassembled code. This particular architecture is a bit more challenging than most, because it's a bit unique. It's a VLIW [3], so it's a great opportunity to learn about an interesting architecture. Millions of Hexagon DSPs are out there, most are found in Snapdragon SoCs for Android phones and more!
We collaborate a lot with Open Source communities like QEMU, LLVM [4], the Linux kernel [5], and more. I love being able to work on Open Source software at my day job.
You can contact me directly (email addr is in my HN user link). If you don't have experience with QEMU - don't worry! Most of us didn't have any experience with it until recently, too.
The rest of the team you'd work with lives mostly in EU, US.
* Rust experience may serve the role well but we don’t (yet) have any product software in Rust.

We're a privacy startup based in NYC working on scaling E2E encryption with personal, private servers. Our first application is a federated Discord alternative targeted at crypto communities. Our biggest need right now is for an Infrastructure Lead that’s very experienced with Rust, as well as a Chief of Staff and a Product Designer.

Chief of Staff - https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/comm/662a0026-e2d6-4de8-8686-8981fd...
Product Designer - https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/comm/aa297615-4ed2-4137-b8b5-9de31e...
Comm's long-term goal is to build an alternative to the centralized application server model that dominates Web2. Sophisticated apps (like Discord) need a backend, but today those backends are controlled by corporations. Our solution is to replace the cloud with a network of personal, private application servers (we call them “keyservers”).
